#NationalPoetryMonth and thus a library poem for you:
Enchantment
Stack by stack,
shelf by shelf,
I pick out books
all by myself.
shelf by shelf,
I pick out books
all by myself.
Page by page,
line by line,
word by word,
I make books mine.
line by line,
word by word,
I make books mine.
With a wave of a card
like a wizard’s right hand—
and an alphabet-alchemy,
life
is
just
grand.
like a wizard’s right hand—
and an alphabet-alchemy,
life
is
just
grand.

April the Giraffe Had a Baby Boy, Sat., April 15, 2017
"April the Giraffe finally welcomed her fourth calf Saturday morning.
After weeks of waiting, the giraffe gave birth at Adventure Park in Harpursville, N.Y.
A zoo official said it was a "perfect delivery" and that the newborn calf was doing well. The zoo later confirmed the calf is male, and they are planning a contest to name their newest resident.
While the baby is April's fourth calf, it's the first baby giraffe for Adventure park. The family is rounded out by a 5-year-old giraffe named Oliver, the newborn's father." ...
... Giraffes typically give birth standing up, which means the newborn calf started out his life with a 6-foot drop to the ground, according to Animal Planet. While it may not sound like the most graceful way to enter the world, the fall breaks the amniotic sac, severs the umbilical cord and "most importantly, encourages the calf to take its first breaths" ...Within minutes, April's baby — likely around six feet tall, weighing between 100 and 150 pounds — will attempt to walk on his own. The newborn animal must learn to stand quickly so he can reach his mother to nurse.
April has been pregnant for about 16 months..." (New York Daily News).

"Stretchy Neck"
Behold the neck of a giraffe
Long enough to make you laugh
Can stretch over the fence in zoo
To find munchy leaves to chew
Of it's length I'm not even half!

"The Giraffe"
The Giraffe is very tall As tall as he could be If it wasn't for his neck He'd be quite short you see

April is Poetry Month. "In Time of Silver Rain" by Langston Hughes
Click on the picture for music clip & rain audio fromFrom the Unitarian Universalist hymnal “Singing The Living Tradition” |
In Time Of Silver Rain
In time of silver rain
The earth puts forth new life again,
Green grasses grow
And flowers lift their heads,
And over all the plain
The wonder spreads
Of Life,
Of Life,
Of life!
In time of silver rain
The butterflies lift silken wings
To catch a rainbow cry,
And trees put forth new leaves to sing
In joy beneath the sky
As down the roadway
Passing boys and girls
Go singing, too,
In time of silver rain When spring
And life
Are new.
