Paper/print vs digital reading: The Children's Reading Foundation says both are good, but that print is better:

"Neuroscience research shows that paper-based content is better connected to memory in our brains (Bangor University). So while electronics are becoming more and more prevalent in our day-to-day life, keep printed books the main form of reading in your home.

When reading an e-book, the moment that book becomes interactive, the part of the brain engaged in the activity changes and it no longer is an activity that builds literacy skills. There is no give and take here, electronics should be an enhancement and not a replacement [for literacy development]."

Volunteer Schedule for the Book Fair is Currently Filled - Fantastic!

Thank you to all who reached out so quickly offering your help at the book fair.  Our Bastion community is very special that way.

Sorry for my delayed response.  I had a short window to eat some lunch and scroll through the bountiful emails after teaching my last class today,
and as I found an available person, I popped he/she/them into the schedule.  Bingity bangity boom, once that schedule was full,
it was onto submitting a Nov. 30th deadline book order I needed to complete and then the 2:12pm book fair sales - thanks to Matt K & Mme Jegues
who really helped with the awesome volume who came to support our book fair.

So yes, the shifts are filled (well, at the moment, as things do come up for people).

The book fair has two more days of in-person sales, and then a final day of digital sales, Friday, Dec. 3rd
https://virtualbookfairs.scholastic.ca/pages/5163193

I aim to write about sales updates & monies generated to buy Scholastic books for our Bastion library in coming posts.

In closing for you really organized peeps, each year, typically the French book fair is the week following the Thanksgiving weekend,
and the English book fair will be the last week of November, 2022
- pull out those smartphone calendars
and let’s make it a date for potential volunteer assistance and of course some sales for some scrumptious books!

Together we do make a difference!

Warm wishes, Ms. Shannon Murrells-Allaway.

Festival du Livre Fundraising Update, Oct. 18, 2021

Festival du Livre Update:

Day 3 (Oct 14th) at the Festival du Livre, Bastion Bobcats plus teachers bought a combined $944 worth of books - wow!  The Festival du Livre website shows a total of 54 books purchased.

Therefore, our grand total less taxes is $2439!  Our goal was to reach $2500, so we were just $61 short, but overall we did fantastic.  Thank you Bobcats!

Our fundraising efforts means that Mme M can spend just over $1000 on new Scholastic French books for our school library - that’s very exciting!

A reminder that the English book fair is in five weeks, Monday, Nov. 29th, to Thursday, Dec. 2nd = 4 days of yummy Scholastic books to explore and potentially buy.

In the meantime, keep reading ...as Dr Seuss would say

What are your definitions or examples of courage?
Most would agree: Courage is to try to run across Canada with a prosthetic leg at the age of 18.
